LEARN HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY

12 SECRETS FOR MEMORIZING THINGS EASILY

We learn things throughout our entire lives, but we still don’t know everything because we forget a lot of information. Why does this happen?
learn why this happens and find a way to memorize information much more effectively. There is a universal formula that helps us to memorize things more easily that was made by Hermann Ebbinghaus, a German psychologist. And it works.

WHY WE FORGET
Your brain protects you from overloading with useless information. That’s why all new information is stored in the short-term memory, not in the long-term memory. If you don’t repeat it or use it, you forget it very quickly.
The Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve shows that just one hour after learning we forget more than half of the learned information. One week later we remember only 20%.
In order to keep the information in your head for a longer time, you need to try to put it into your long-term memory. Forced memorization is not very effective in this case because your brain can’t make sense of the information quickly and form strong associations. If you want to remember things for a long time, you need to extend the memorization period. It should be as long as a few days or even weeks.
You can practice interval memorization using self-made cards or special applications like Anki ( Android , iOS) and
SuperMemo ( Android , iOS ).

12 MORE MEMORIZING TIPS

1. Try to understand what you learn. Things that you understand are memorized 9 times faster.
2. Learn the most necessary information . You need to set your priorities correctly.
3.  Take this into consideration: things that are at the beginning and at the end are memorized the best ( serial position effect ).
4. Switch your attention from one topic to another. Remember that similar memories get mixed ( interference theory) and become a “mess.“
5. Learn opposite things . For example, if you are learning a foreign language, memorize day and night. Opposites are easier to memorize.
6. Build your own ”mind palace.“ The idea is to associate certain things with a certain place. For example, if you are in your room, try to connect a thing you are learning to something in your room. Repeat it a few times. After that, try to recall what the room looks like in your memory, and repeat the things you learned this way.
7. Use “nail words.” The point of the technique is to nail one learned thing to another. So when you think of the nail, you automatically recall the other thing.
8. Associate new words with those you already know. If you are learning a language, you can memorize something new based on what you know.
9. Make up stories . If you need to memorize a lot of information in some particular order, try to put the pieces into a story. It’s important that the pieces are connected to each other with some kind of plot.
10.  Use a tape recorder . Record the information you are learning, and listen to the recording a few times. This method works best for people who memorize audio information better.
11. Visualize. Use body language when learning. This will help you trigger your muscle memory.
12. Choose only the best materials . Don’t use outdated books and methods of learning. Things might have changed a lot since the books were written. Don’t waste your time on something that may turn out to be wrong.

No course is superior or better than another!! Every course has its own good sides and bad sides.. You can imagine someone who graduates as a doctor today and never get fulfilled in life, always struggling with his/her happiness, stressed up at work and always having the face of one who has had a trailer run over him/her. You can be successful in anything you commit yourself to do and enjoy doing. And who says you can't still be where you wish to be if you be somewhere else now? Most of us came in from somewhere else, and that has actually helped us to know what the other side means and also appreciate it. Shopping into another department/faculty is way of making a plan B work. Never hesitate to take that bold step when the time comes. You haven't really deviated from God's plan for your life by doing so... It is an opportunity!!
When it is time, we shall help most of you with which to shop into and your chances of being admitted based on statistics. What ever happens, always know that God loves you and has a plan for you.... Plans for good and not of evil! Plans to bring you the expected ending(fulfilment)

UNN admission secrets

UNN admission secrets

As we await d cutoff marks(which are not always made available) and probably the merit list, let us use this time well; to pray and to plan. How much u plan will determine whether or not you would be admitted if your aggregate happens not to be up to the cutoff mark of the department you are aspiring for.
If you miss the merit list, you can still get admitted even to your dream course. There are lots of admission secrets and if time permits us during that period, we will unveil the ones known to us.... Just know for now that UNN staff quotas isn't d only quotas available for admission. There are a good number of them and I will list the ones I know here later.
Be optimistic but don't be stupid!!
How The Lists Will Be Released:
* primary list - This will have the names of those whose average are greater than or equal to their aspiring departmental cutoff marks. There are departmental merit cutoff mark and departmental State cutoff marks which varies from State to Sate depending on d number of aspirants from such state and the percentage of persons allocated to each State.
* 1st supplementary list - This is basically for those who shopped into another department and also aspirants who are using special quotas(staff + others). Aspirants whose average are very close to the cutoff mark of their department could also be considered.
* 2nd supplementary list - this is usually the main list which is based on discretionary. Here ppl who are rich can buy their way through. Ppl who have long leg can also be admitted here.
* and others, as many as they deemed fit to release.
NB:
- 2nd supplementary list and others following it can be compressed into one list depending on the time available.
- the last list popularly known as the VC list is not always the list used for discretion by the VC. He can use any one ranging from the 2nd to the last but most likely, the third.
- people who come in through the 1st list do not always end up the best. When you all are finally admitted, you all become the same.. It will now take someone who wants sth special to work for it ... Your High score in jamb will no longer be effective
- There's nothing wrong in asking somebody for help or paying some amount for admission. It is not perculier with UNN, it is done in every university in the world. Many of us would want our kids to study in Harvard one day, and it means that if we have the money, we'll pay their way in. What is wrong is graduating ppl who are not qualified!!

Enemies to the I.Q.

Enemies to the I.Q.

Even if you can easily complete the daily crossword puzzle and regularly trounce your pals in Words With Friends—classic ways to keep your mind sharp—there may be other everyday habits chipping away at your intellect, sabotaging your precious neurons in surprising ways.
Here are 6 things that top experts say could be harming your true brain power.

1. You're stressed out.

Fretting about finances, worrying over work projects, and trying to maintain a semblance of a social life can create a potent stew of stress hormones.
"High stress levels are not only associated with poorer brain functioning but may even link to an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease," says Brendan Kelley, MD, neurologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Hormonal changes linked to stress are believed to be behind this relationship.

2. You can't fit into your jeans.

As if you need more incentive to stay slim, research shows mid-life obesity can result in poorer cognitive performance and an increased risk of dementia later on, says Kelley.
A study published in the
American Journal of Epidemiology shows a link between obesity and low intellectual ability in adolescence and adulthood. "Obesity is a complex medical problem, however," says Kelley. It's not easy to disentangle whether this is because of some of the medical issues that may result from obesity or from obesity itself, he says.

3. You're living the sweet life.

Sugar not only adds inches to your waistline, but in high doses, it could affect your brain cells, says Allen Towfigh, MD, a sleep medicine doctor and neurologist affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital. "Diabetics have higher incidences of dementia," notes Towfigh.
The negative impact of sugar on the brain may be because of increased inflammation, according to an animal study from the University of Southern California. High sugar diets were found to affect brain cell functioning and cognitive ability.

4. You're the master multi-tasker.

Composing an email while having a discussion with your co-worker and eating lunch at the same time—sound familiar? This kind of juggling act can jam up your brain processing, says Towfigh. "Our frontal lobes are the main engines directing our attention, and they only have a finite amount of processing power." If you try to exceed what your brain can reasonably do, your mind may stall out from time to time, similar to how your computer freezes up when you try to open multiple programs.

5. You spend time with a friend who smokes.

Even if you don't light up, inhaling second-hand cigarette smoke subjects the brain to a cocktail of toxic substances, says Towfigh. "Prolonged exposure to smoke increases carbon monoxide in the body, which displaces vital oxygen our brains and bodies need."
Damage to blood vessels and neurons disrupt the ability of brain cells to communicate effectively and retain information properly.

6. You're always up the air.

Chronic jet lag from a busy travel schedule can affect learning and memory for up to a month after you've returned home, according to research from the University of California, Berkeley.
Traveling through different time zones disrupts your body's normal circadian rhythm, says Elizabeth Lombardo, PhD, a psychologist and author of
Better than Perfect: 7 Strategies to Crush Your Inner Critic and Create a Life You Love. "In addition to problems with sleeping, eating, and hormone regulation (all of which can also influence memory and learning), it serves as a significant source of stress on your body."
